See what’s new and improved in ArcGIS Pro 2.4.

Pixel Editor

New in ArcGIS Image Analyst, the Pixel Editor provides a suite of tools to interactively manipulate pixel values for raster and imagery data. It allows you to edit an individual pixel or groups of pixels at once. The types of operations that you can perform depends on the data source type of your raster dataset.

Dynamic feature binning

When you work with large point feature classes stored in a relational database management system (RDBMS), you can aggregate the features into dynamic polygon bins when the feature class is added as a layer to a map or scene. The feature class must first be enabled for binning with the Enable Feature Binning geoprocessing tool. You can then display the features as bins at smaller scales while still drawing the point features at larger scales, where their display is manageable and understandable. Each bin represents all features within its boundaries and can be symbolized to reflect feature count or a different summary statistic.

Parcel fabric

The parcel fabric is a comprehensive framework for managing, editing, and sharing parcel data in ArcGIS Enterprise.

The parcel fabric can be maintained in both a single-user deployment and a multiuser deployment. In a single-user deployment, the parcel fabric is edited and maintained in a file geodatabase. In a multiuser deployment, the parcel fabric is created in an enterprise geodatabase and is shared and edited as a feature service.

GeoAnalytics parallel desktop processing

The GeoAnalytics Desktop tools provide a parallel processing framework for analysis on a desktop machine using Apache Spark. Through aggregation, detection, and clustering, you can visualize, understand, and interact with big data. These tools work with big datasets and allow you to gain insight into your data through patterns, trends, and anomalies. The tools are integrated and run in ArcGIS Pro in the same way as other desktop geoprocessing tools.

Profile viewing

New for 3D views is the ability to create a profile viewing state. You can interactively add a profile line in the scene, and the view automatically shifts to display a vertical slice of the content. Viewing 3D data that is vertically stacked as a profile view provides a clearer representation of your content. The profile view is a temporary viewing state and is useful when you want to see your content from a side-on viewpoint. The view adjusts to clip and focus on the content only in the profile construct area. The scene view automatically switches from the default perspective drawing mode to parallel drawing mode to preserve relative proportions of any objects.

The first steps to get started with ArcGIS Pro are to download, install and authorize the application. Optionally, you can also download the offline help installation or language packs that allow you to run ArcGIS Pro in the language of your choice.

If you do not have access to a licensed copy of ArcGIS Pro, you can sign in for a free trial of ArcGIS.

Download ArcGIS Pro

You can download ArcGIS Pro and any optional configuration from My Esri. You can access a list of available downloads by going to the My Organizations tab and clicking Downloads.
Note

To download, your Esri account must be connected to your organization with the appropriate permissions. If you do not have the appropriate permissions, the download option will not be available. On the My Esri organizations tab, click Request permissions from your organization, which will tell your administrator to connect your Esri account to your organization.

ArcGIS Pro (required): download from My Esri to get the main ArcGIS Pro application.

Offline help (optional): download from My Esri to access ArcGIS Pro’s offline help (local help files).

By default, ArcGIS Pro connects to an online help system and displays it. If you are going to work in a disconnected environment, install the local help files.

Install

ArcGIS Pro can be installed as a per-team or per-user installation. One installation per computer allows all users to use ArcGIS Pro. One installation per user allows only the installer to use ArcGIS Pro. The default installation locations for each option are found in Installing ArcGIS Pro automatically with command line parameters in INSTALLDIR. The following steps reflect one installation per computer.

You must install ArcGIS Pro before installing other optional configurations.

Note: In order to install ArcGIS Pro for each user on compatible Windows Server operating systems, the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer must include the REG_DWORD DisableMSI data type, with the value 0. For more information, see the MSDN DisableMSI topic.

Review the ArcGIS Pro system requirements to check the system requirements and other requirements related to the environment.

Start the ArcGIS Pro installation program and click Next when you are ready to continue.

Review the license agreement and accept it if you agree. Click Next to continue the installation. If you do not accept the terms of the program, you must exit the program.

Select the installation context in which ArcGIS Pro will be installed, either per computer (all users) or per user. By default, the option per machine is selected. Click Next to continue. Note: If the user running the installation does not have administrative privileges, one instance of ArcGIS Pro per machine cannot be installed.

Click Change to specify the installation folder or click Next to accept the default location of C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro\. If you change the installation folder, neither ArcGIS nor Pro will be added to the modified path. It is recommended that the selected custom installation location include a folder rather than the root location of a drive.

Click Install to begin the installation. Note that the Esri User Experience Improvement check box is selected by default.

Click Finish to close the wizard when the installation is complete. If you want to start the application immediately, leave the Run ArcGIS Pro now check box selected.

If desired, install ArcGIS Pro offline help by going to your installation folder and running the ArcGISProHelp.msi file.

Authorize

After downloading and installing ArcGIS Pro, you must have an authorized license to start using the application.

If you have an ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise account, you can start ArcGIS Pro with a named user license. If your credentials do not work, please contact your administrator. You may not have any license assigned to you, or you may need to authorize a Single Use or Concurrent Use license instead of a Named User license.

If you are an administrator, the steps to authorize licenses depend on the type of license you are using. By default, ArcGIS Pro uses Named User licenses, but you also have the option of converting them to Single Use or Concurrent Use licensing.
